LOGAN WHISTLE PERFORMANCE COMPARISON

CHOOSING FROM THE RANGE OF LOGAN WHISTLES - click for FULL RANGE

Our whistles are ALL

·       effective for any breed of dog

·       capable of very loud & sharp as well as soft/deep sounds

·       suitable for all users – beginner to professional

These are all variable tone whistles – from low frequency deep tones to very high frequency, sharp whistle commands. The precision way we cut the various premium metal and Delrin materials creates clean edges around the air hole and 'sound chamber' giving precise, crisp sounds that dogs respect and appreciate.

All are capable of high performance - soft deeper tones to sharp, high pitched, tones. You can use just one design, basing your decision on the shape, material, weight and overall design that you prefer.

But there are of course some performance differences between the whistle designs - so if you want a whistle suited to a particular situation or to use with dogs of differing temperaments then we can help with that too.

Using feedback from experienced users and from field trials – we have created the table above giving an indication of features that users say they most value about each whistle – what the whistle does especially well – a good place to start if you have a particular need or are new to our whistles. But everyone uses the whistles slightly differently - so please accept this illustration as a guide only.

The following is a short explanation of how the different models evolved and how they differ:

  • our first precision whistle was the A1 anodised aluminium, still a best-seller (also now available in our two-hole Turbo design - the A1 Turbo)
  • we then made the Supreme brass to exactly the same design. Brass strengthens the tones especially at the lower and upper ranges
  • using the same design and for added power we created the brass Turbo two-hole sound chamber (see below for qualities of the Turbo design)
  • next we created a straighter-sided DELTA profile whistle shape which some find fits their mouth better and has amazing sound quality - we offer this shape in
    • a precision cut non-metallic Delrin material which gives metal whistle performance in all weathers, especially good in extreme cold and wet - the Delta Delrin and Delta2 Turbo Delrin
    • the stainless steel Logan 304 and Logan 304 Turbo whistles take sound performance to a new level
  • using this profile we created the VENTURA range - changing the air-hole and sound chamber to help recreate the Turbo performance in a one-hole whistle - available as

And new to our range is what seems from feedback to be our best yet! The Tribute Titanium whistle. Lighter than stainless steel giving effortlessly smooth tones.

About our TURBO design

Our two-hole Turbo design changes the 'voice' or reverberation of the tones so that they are audible at greater distance and able to cut through background and interfering sounds like wind, sea, crowd noise.  The whistle can be louder too. The design was developed by my father when he was working with his dogs in the Highlands of Scotland.  It is used in just the same way as our other whistles. We offer our Turbo design in non-metallic Delrin (the Delta2), anodised aluminium (the A1 Turbo); brass (Turbo brass); and stainless steel (Logan 304 Turbo). For those used to a one-hole whistle there will be a little period of adapting to the whistle to get the same fluency.  Our Ventura range with the larger air-hole was developed for those who want to emulate the Turbo performance but in a one-hole style.

A word about Brass

Given the acoustic and ant-bacterial properties of brass, it is the usual metal of choice for musical instruments including the harmonica, trumpet and horn.

We love the hygienic nature of this material - brass can kill even antibiotic-resistant bacteria such as MRSA and VRSA microorganisms within a few minutes of contact.

For those who are sensitive to metals, and to minimise any potential for an allergic reaction, we have sourced top-quality certified lead-free brass for our whistles and do not add lacquer of any kind.  Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc and if you may have sensitivities to those materials meaning you 'taste' the brass you may feel happier selecting a whistle from one of our other ranges.
