Every handler wants a stylish Border Collie, one with the temperament and 'power' of a champion. The low head and tail carriage of Perfect Style and Perfect Pace are a mark of the dog's confidence and strength of character. This is a dog that will be gently persuasive with weak or 'light' sheep but which will, without undue fuss, stand steady and command the respect of those that initially challenge its authority. Fitness, speed and agility create a streamlined profile. A close handler and dog relationship is evident in the dog's rapt expression – listening and responding to its handler, as only this most exceptional and intelligent of breeds can continue to do, at great distances.

A border collie holds the gaze of the 'lead sheep' and exerts its power in a calm controlled way – no rushing up, no fuss, just absolute confidence in its own ability to take this sheep and all the others (we have to imagine those for now) where the handler tells it to. The dog waits patiently for the handler's next command – and there's no escape for this fine and spirited specimen of a Border Leicester sheep. A strictly limited edition of 100 will be made in bronze and fixed on an English oak base.
The McHardy Sculpture Company was launched by Joanne & Max McHardy in 1995 in Shad Thames in the shadow of London's Tower Bridge where we represented the work of young and established contemporary artists. In 2006, Joanne helped her father complete and publish his book ' Over the Hill and Far Away' telling the story of his unique bond with the border collie breed and the successes and adventures he enjoyed by following his passion for sheepdog breeding and handling. Holly Bennett was one of the most successful artists in the gallery, with a focus on creating highly sought after animal sculptures. She was a natural choice to illustrate the book and to create the very first in the Border Collie Series by McHardy Originals. Now based in the countryside of West Sussex we continue to source and commission art for our clients - with a particular specialism on working dogs, horses and farming livestock breeds.
Holly Bennett is a Member of the Bath Society of Artists and has a BA(Hons) Degree in Fine Art Sculpture from Wimbledon College of Art and a Post Graduate Diploma in Sculpture from the City and Guilds of London Art School. Holly's work is widely collected and is represented in many private collections across the UK. Pictured left, a private commission, Border Leicester – lifesize, in cement.
